A former Woolworths employee is suing the supermarket giant for $787,877 after she damaged her back picking up a heavy box of liquid laundry detergent.
Christine Newell, 51, was a grocery assistant at the supermarket in Yeppoon Central shopping centre, akilli kilit on the Queensland mid-north coast, when the alleged accident happened on April 8, 2016.
Ms Newell had been scanning boxes and loading stock into cages before she allegedly knelt down and reached for a box with two six-litre bottles of detergent inside, The Courier Mail reported.
The woman claimed she pulled the box, which weighted more than 12 kilograms, toward herself and began to stand before feeling an intense pain in her lower back.
Ms Newell had injured her spine two years before she got the job.

The lawsuit against Woolworths was filed in December last year and stated she was unable to work after the incident.
Her employment was terminated more than a year later on April 21, 2017.
It will be alleged the supermarket failed to ensure Ms Newell's existing injury wasn't aggravated.

'Despite being aware of our client's pre-existing spinal injury, the defendant failed to implement a system of work and training around the lifting of heavy stock items,' her lawyer Matthew Dunlop said.
He also said Ms Newell suffered a 'significant' muscular skeletal spinal injury, a disc bulge and depression as a result of her medical conditions.

'Our client has required treatment by her general practitioner, an orthopaedic surgeon and a neurosurgeon and can no longer carry out her previous duties,' the statement read.
'She will also need ongoing treatment and medication to manage her symptoms.'
It will be argued that Woolworths should have 10kg restrictions on what employees can lift, provide annual training for safe lifting procedures and employ supervisors to ensure workers are using the correct lifting techniques.
The supermarket intends to submit a defence but is yet to file one.
